2009 Fantasy Rankings - Week 2 TEs

1. Dallas Clark vs. Miami Dolphins

Tony Gonzalez torched the Dolphins secondary in Week One and this bodes well for Dallas Clark, who now becomes Manning’s No. 2 target with the loss of WR Anthony Gonzalez. With the added attention Reggie Wayne will likely receive, look for Clark to be targeted early and often and put at least one TD in the end zone. Top fantasy football TE in Week Two.

2. Jason Witten vs. New York Giants

Romo will need to get the ball out quickly this week to offset the Giants big-time pass rush, so look for Witten to be a primary target on Sunday. He’ll also have an opportunity to work against WLB Michael Boley, who missed all of the preseason with an injury and was suspended in the opener, so there could be rust to shake off.

3. Chris Cooley vs. St. Louis Rams

Cooley was the main target in their loss to the Giants and now he gets to face the Rams, a team that was torched by Seattle’s John Carlson for 95 yards and two TDs on opening day. Look for him to be used heavily on Sunday and put up solid fantasy numbers as a result: at least 75 yards and one TD.

4. Tony Gonzalez vs. Carolina Panthers

The Eagles leading receiver against the Panthers was TE Brent Celek, who hauled in six balls and a score. Gonzalez showed right from the get go how dynamic he and Ryanmight be together, so look for another solid outing this Sunday.

Sleepers

Jeremy Shockey vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Although this is not an easy match-up, Brees will probably target Shockey more than normal to avoid the Eagles’ pass rush and blitz scheme. The TE is the perfect antidote to an aggressive defense. Shockey looked like his former self last Sunday and is a greatfantasy sleeper play in this situation.

Robert Royal vs. Denver Broncos

Royal was used extensively vs. the Vikings (60 yards, 1TD) and this is another nice spot for Royal to excel. The TE is usually a big part of Mangini’s offense and without any real weapons other than Braylon Edwards, look for his numbers to remain solid.

Others We Like

Zach Miller vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Miller was a force on Monday Night against the Chargers and should be Russell’s primary target all season. The Chiefs are soft in the middle so look for the Raiders to exploit this area of the field when Russell drops back to pass.

John Carlson vs. San Francisco 49ers

Carlson is emerging as a top flight TE and certainly started off the season with a bang (95 yards, two TDs). Look for Hasselback to continue to target his second year TE and for Seattle to move him around to create mismatches against the Niners.

Kevin Boss vs. Dallas Cowboys

Eli is looking Boss’s way more often this season and look for the TE to become the team’s primary red zone target in 2009. Dallas isn’t particularly strong in the middle of the field and Eli will incorporate the TE into the game plan to protect against the Cowboys pass rush.

What do you think about Greg Olsen? I'm ready to play him again although he didn't show well last week, however I just picked up John Carlson as well.
